When reading chapter 8, I noticed the section about a push-in vs. zoom in. In connecting the consonance camera explained earlier in the chapter, zooms often don't feel natural or take you out of the magic a movie. In reality, if we want to get closer to someone, we walk towards them. A push-in gives this same effect, making it feel more real. The video below explains more on the visual and emotional difference between a push-in and a zoom.

Where a push in feels more like reality, a zoom can still be of great story-telling use. A zoom makes the background compressed, giving the effect that the world is closing in on the character in frame. A zoom will draw more attention to what you want the audience to look like without feeling like you are actually being pulled closer to the character. When deciding what shot to use, we should ask ourselves, do we want the audience to feel like they are being physically moved, or just focus their attention onto the character. Reading about this emotional difference was super eye opening to me, because these techniques can often feel similar.
