 In Chapter 6, we cover lightning.  Something that I was already aware of was the different types of lighting and how the viewer can get an idea of the mood of the scene before the actors say or do anything. What shocked me was that you can achieve the soft and hard lighting without filters. As many know, there are filters on our phones on social media apps that make a soft or hard lighting effect.  It was fascinating to see how to do it without a filter.  

Taking this example, while the difference is subtle, you notice how the picture on the left shows more detail, such as her eyes and skin. The picture on the right, however, it is noticeable how soft she looks. 

I've noticed how films use softer lighting in backstories and flashbacks to have a nostalgic mood. Also, the use of soft lighting is when a love interest appears, the audience sees the person through the eyes of the main person the camera is following
