After reading Chapter 4, I have been reflecting on color temperature. There are several films that come to my mind because of the specific temperature. Films like Lala Land, Don’t Worry Darling, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days are a few of my favorites. I have always taken note of a film having a good mood/color scheme so I was excited to see it in our book. I liked the simplicity of using the color wheel to find complementary colors and to find the scheme you want in your film through it.

This video highlights hue, saturation, and brightness (HSB). Hue, being the color itself can be used monochromatically or in a color wheel. Whether that be many complimentary colors or only a handful, a good film uses a color scheme to keep things cohesive. Saturation helps a lot with the mood. For example desaturating the color to give it more of a crude theme, versus a high saturation for a happy film. Brightness can also affect the mood greatly. A low brightness can contribute to a more intense or serious scene, while high brightness can be more uplifting. Overall, color temperature is up to the film maker. There is so much creative freedom that comes with the color scheme and it is one of my favorite things about film!
