Hannah_Chapter2

Upon reading chapter 2, I'm thinking about the different protagonist vs. antagonist conflict scenarios mentioned in the text. The author explains that the protagonist almost always takes the form of a person, while the antagonist takes many forms. Some examples given were person vs. group, person vs. self, and person vs. nature, but while thinking about these examples I wondered about another that was not mentioned: person vs. idea. I decided to explore this example beyond the text.

The 8 Types of Conflict (with Examples, Possible Resolutions, and Stakes) ~ September C. Fawkes - Editor, Writer, Instructor

The article above delves further into the different types of conflicts. When studying the article, I decided my person vs. idea conflict most directly fits into the person vs. self and person vs. society conflicts. It can also fit into person vs. fate, which I just learned about upon reading the article! In person vs. self, the protagonist battles internal conflict, which can be an example of a certain idea that is troubling them. In person vs. society, the protagonist could be conflicted by a general idea claimed by society. Lastly, the person vs. fate category can provide a conflicting idea about what the protagonist is supposed to fulfill, or who he/she is supposed to be.

To conclude, although a person vs. idea conflict is not commonly studied within films, it is found wedged within multiple other conflicts that are studied.
