Hannah__Chapter1
After reading chapter 1, I am reflecting on the text's concept of the director/cinematographer relationship. The idea that stuck with me in particular is the comparison given that they can be thought of as the pitcher and catcher on a baseball team.
Harmonizing Vision: The Director and Cinematographer Collaboration - Eye On Films
The article above further discusses the ideal dynamic required of the director & cinematographer. The part that stuck out to me most was a piece of tip #2 which says to "embrace their expertise." In my opinion, this related most directly back to the comparison given in the textbook. In a game of baseball, most players don't play multiple positions: especially the pitcher & catcher, who have very dynamic roles in the game. They must trust each other and embrace their presence as well as their skill in order to have a smooth game. This is the same for the director and cinematographer. The article explains that "cinematographers come with a wealth of experience," and that the "directors should leverage this by inviting them to contribute creatively to the visual design of the film".
